Why August Matters
August is a special month for many reasons. It's a time to honor trans history, celebrate trans joy, and continue the fight for liberation. I’m proud to be on the field doing just that!
In August 1966, Black and Brown trans women and drag queens led the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots right here in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. This was three years before the Stonewall Riots.
What began as a resistance inside a 24-hour diner turned into a full-on uprising at Turk & Taylor Streets. This area is now the heart of The Transgender District. It marked the first major act of trans and queer resistance to police brutality in the U.S. This event forever changed our city and the movement.

✨ To honor that legacy, I invite you to join us for Kicking Out Transphobia — San Francisco on Saturday, August 16th. This event will be a day of inclusion, celebration, and play at James P. Lang Field from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Trans youth are especially welcome! We have games for all ages, and no experience is needed. Afterward, we’ll have an afterparty at Ricky's Bar, SF's all-women's sports bar!
The Importance of Community
Community is everything. It’s where we find support and strength. When we come together, we create a safe space for everyone. We can share our stories, celebrate our identities, and uplift one another.
In sports, community plays a vital role. It’s not just about competition; it’s about belonging. Through collective action, we foster a sense of unity. We empower each other to be our authentic selves.
Celebrating Trans Joy
Trans joy is powerful! It’s essential to celebrate the beauty and resilience within our community. Each of us has unique stories and experiences that contribute to the rich tapestry of trans history.
During Transgender History Month, let’s take a moment to reflect on our journeys. Let’s celebrate our victories, big and small. Whether it’s a personal achievement or a collective milestone, every step forward matters.
The Future of Trans Rights
The fight for trans rights is ongoing. We must remain vigilant and active in advocating for our rights in athletics and beyond. Together, we can challenge discrimination and push for change.
Let’s stand united against transphobia. We can create a world where everyone is celebrated and supported. Our voices matter, and our actions can make a difference.
Join Us!
I can’t wait to see you at Kicking Out Transphobia — San Francisco! Let’s honor our past while looking forward to a brighter future. Together, we can create a community where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Mark your calendars for August 16th! Let’s make some noise and show the world our strength and joy!
